The Zenmuse X9 camera is remarkably versatile, supporting a wide range of high-definition video formats such as Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 4444 XQ, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422 LT and H.264. It can achieve recording resolutions as high as 8K at 60 frames per second (fps) and 4K at 120 fps in full-frame, making it suitable for professional films requiring superior image quality.

The X9-8K model operates with an exposure index of 320/1600, while allowing extended range up to EI 800/4000 when the Dynamic Range Expansion function is activated. The X9-6K model even extends this capability to EI 800/5000. This range enhancement ensures exceptionally clear images, especially in low ambient light, effectively minimising noise.

Equipped with a motorised system, the camera includes built-in physical Neutral Density (ND) filters with 9 different strengths, ranging from ND 2 to ND 512, allowing videographers to quickly switch between filters. This feature significantly helps control light exposure, ensuring optimal conditions for shooting high-quality video.

The Zenmuse X9 is compatible with DJI's DL mount and other popular lens mounts, including Leica L, Leica M, Sony E and ARRI PL. This wide compatibility offers filmmakers a flexible choice in lens selection for different platforms and needs.

Integrating a LiDAR focusing system and a focus motor, the X9 enhances autofocus capabilities, allowing even manual lenses to benefit from autofocus functions. The automatic manual focus mode keeps focus in sync with changes in the focus point, but offers manual adjustment options for cinematographers when needed.

The Z-axis stabilisation system is central to the X9 and effectively eliminates vertical camera shake. This feature is complemented by visual sensors and the ActiveTrack Pro system to ensure that captured images are both stable and fluid, essential for high-quality productions.

Notable for the X9, O3 Pro Video Transmission Technology increases frequency range with DFS bands and supports robust video transmission at 1080p/60fps. This advanced system allows connection from a single transmitter to multiple receivers, enabling extensive remote control over various camera and gimbal settings, improving efficiency and effectiveness in professional filming environments.
